The name “Haycutters” refers to the history of the Davey Estate vineyard; previously the block was used to grow hay for Kym & John’s grandfather, Gordon Sharpe’s, dairy herd. The high calcium soil that was excellent for raising strong, young heifers is also ideal for growing vines.
Deep magenta in colour. Primary aromas of blackberry and blueberry are highlighted with nuances of milk chocolate, espresso and roasted nut. The blackberry and dark cherry flavours are restrained and focused by fine tannins and a hint of cedary oak.
Pale salmon pink. Rose petal and cranberry aromas lift from the glass. The palate is filled with flavours of strawberry, raspberry and mixed peel, along with earthy textural elements. The sweet fruit flavours are defined by a lingering natural acidity and savoury moreishness.
