The first release of The Gate Shiraz was in 2002. In 2018 the range was extended to include our interpretation of the “Classic Australian Blend” – The Gate Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz.

Select parcels of fruit from Shiraz vines grown across the Davey Estate Vineyard are handcrafted to maximise the potential of each unique batch. Maturation for 15 months in 1 – 5 year old, fine grained American (80%) and French (20%) oak hogsheads softens, enhances and integrates the fruit and structural components of the wine. Individual barrel selection is carried out to create the final blend.

The regal Cabernet Sauvignon’s fragrant aromatics and tight tannic structure is expanded by, and gives focus to, the juicy generosity of the Shiraz. Cabernet Sauvignon from two distinct blocks has been selected to lead the chosen Shiraz in this classic Australian blend, creating a worthy partner for our highly awarded Gate Shiraz. Varietal clones selected and the soil in which they grow add further dimension and depth to the blend.
